About the composer
Born in Christchurch New Zealand, Campbell has been taught from the start by the outstanding Greg Wilson, his father. From a young age Campbell has had considerable success as a piper, winning the premier youth events in New Zealand multiple times, and the CNP Gold Medal while still in his teens. He has also won the Under 18 Piobaireachd at Inverness, and been placed in the Bronze Medal.
This tune is Campbell’s first piobaireachd composition. He wrote it just before leaving New Zealand to pursue a professional career in ballet. “At the time, I wasn't sure if I would be so fortunate to find a pathway into the profession which, naturally, had a fair amount of nerves associated with it. I wasn't sure where I'd end up, but I was fully prepared to ride the wave, hence the title.”
Written for CNP’s 2024 composing competition, the tune is played by Campbell himself.
