About the composer
Willie is from a farming family in New Zealand’s Rangitikei district. He has already crafted a fine piping record.
In the pipe band domain, he is Pipe Sergeant of the very successful Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band, and a former Pipe Major of the NZ Youth Pipe Band. His solo piping career is studded with piobaireachd success at home and abroad, including winning the CNP Gold Medal, the Inverness Silver Medal and subsequent placings in the Gold Medal.
Willie has shown a flair for composition and this is one of his more recent tunes.
Maria is the name of a line of stud cows on the farm, which have been bred for generations; some of these have been sold in recent times and Willie has named the tune as “a tribute to the Maria line and to all the cow families that have been part of the farm’s story over seven decades of dedication, care, and breeding excellence.”
