Call for Submissions: A Collection of New Zealand Piobaireachd

Following the success of Comunn na Piobaireachd’s (CNP’s) 2024 Piobaireachd Composing Competition, CNP is pleased to announce its intention to curate and publish a collection of piobaireachd composed by New Zealanders.

We invite submissions of piobaireachd compositions for inclusion in this collection. These may be:

  • Existing compositions (including those by deceased New Zealand composers), or
  • New, original works.

Contributors are welcome to submit multiple compositions. All entries from the 2024 Composing Competition will automatically be considered for inclusion, in line with the competition’s copyright terms.

CNP expects to publish between 10 and 20 compositions, subject to the number and quality of submissions received.

Submission Requirements:

  • Electronic format of the full composition.
  • An audio recording of the piece (by any performer).
  • title for the composition.
  • brief biography of the composer and any explanatory notes are encouraged and may be included in the publication.
  • Compositions should ideally follow the conventional structure of piobaireachd (i.e., urlar and variations).

Copyright and Publication:

CNP reserves the right to publish selected compositions in hard copy and/or electronic formats, including audio and video recordings. Copyright will be held jointly by the composer and CNP.

CNP will retain discretion over whether and how submissions are published. We will not unreasonably withhold consent for republication elsewhere, provided CNP’s original publication is acknowledged. No payment will be made for works selected for inclusion. Any existing third-party copyright interests must be disclosed at the time of submission.

Deadline for Submissions:

31 December 2025

We look forward to receiving your contributions and celebrating New Zealand’s growing legacy of piobaireachd composition—works that will stand alongside our finest cultural creations (yes, even Pineapple Lumps).
